4 Summer Activities to Stay Active and Burn Calories

These are 4 of my favorite activities to keep me active and burning calories for summer!

  • Beach Activities - Get your swim suit ready, sandles, towel, picknick supplies and lets go to the beach or to the lake.   Here are some things you can do to have fun while out near the water. 
    • Go kayaking - you first need a kayak, a paddle and a way to transport it.  Try kayaking in the lake or in the bay where there is limited waves that can flip you over.
    • Beach volleyball - You can play volleyball just about anywhere.  Grab a ball and a partner and lets go! 
    • Go swimming - if you jumping off the deepend somewhere, have a life vest or foam noodles to keep you afloat.

  • Household Chores - yes this requires work, but you can get really lean and burn so many calories with mowing the lawn and washing the car under the shade.
    • Wash the car - do this under the shade and stay hydrated while you work.  I prefer washing the car early in the morning or before the sun goes down.
    • Mow the lawn - this is one of my favorite cardio sessions.  The yard will look amazing after a nice fat melting session under the sun.

  • Playing Outdoors
    • Play catch ball - get a baseball, softball, a mit and your kid.  I really enjoy this game and tossing ground balls to really get your body active and burn more calories
    • Jump on the trampline - Be Warned: jumping on the trampoline can be so much fun and also risky if its your first time.  Stay light on your feet and dont get too carried away on your first try.  Stay away from the spring coils! 
    • Plant a garden with the family - This can be such a great learning activity for you and the kids.  Once you plant the garden, you will also pick its produce and keep you active because you will have to maintain it by removing weeds, shrubs and keeping the soil furtile.
  • ​​Biking - My Absolute Favorite Activity!
    • Ride around the neighborhood - try this if its your first time.  Learn to feel the bike and get used to stopping and turning
    • Plan a trip around the city - My most memorable trips was touring the city with my family in a bike!  We toured Chicago, Ill one year and saw almost the entire city in our bikes.  You will never want to visit a city without your bike again.
